Best way to describe this place is Sushi fast food. You get a decent sushi at a very economical price. Each piece of sushi cost about $1.75 to $2.50 and hand rolls will set you back about $5.00. Tea and water are self serving and free of charge. You would order from a menu at the cashier and given a ticket. Find any open seating and when you're food is ready one of their waiter will shout out the ticket number. Service was prompt and you get your money's worth. The sushi was good and decent for quick fix. The tempura could've use another minute in the fryer and the soft shell crab batter was a bit too thick. Parking in this area can be challenging so you may have to drive around the blocks a few times.
Best ramen I've had in a long time. All other dishes were very good too.
We have been eating at Manpuku for many years, and this restaurant is a huge family favorite. The food is excellent and the quality is reliable. Very short wait times, friendly staff and reasonable prices complete the picture. This is a restaurant we should all support during the shelter in place.
Great place for ramen or udon and a little sushi. Not authentic but hey, for the price you can't go wrong. Friendly service but servers are too bright. Maybe they are mostly students and not too experienced. Still very acceptable good service.
Loved it! Good service too!
Solid sushi, lots of options and very inexpensive! Definitely recommend!
This place is a solid sushi option. It is very reasonably priced and great tasting. I will definitely be coming back!
Great food, great prices. Solid choice for a quick lunch for 1-2 people. A larger dining room opens up for dinner so normally it's just a few small tables and counter seating.
Very well priced Japanese food. Nice dragon roll, Champon Ramen was my favorite with a lovely broth and layers of flavors.
Really nice place to have delicious food and be served by kind staffs!! Definitely to go again soon~!!Again visited with more friends and all were satisfied with good food and kind service!Especially the boss of the restaurant was so nice~!Small and cozy place to enjoy the meal~
The cheapest sushi yet fresh and delicious! California rolls were $3.75!!
Not fresh or flavorful.
Is this the best Japanese food? No. But it's decent and wallet-friendly.
Most affordable and tasty Sushi in the area! Can be crowded because of this (not a hidden jem) go on off hours.
Reasonable price, good quality, recommend!
This place has two doors. One for the take away and one for the dine in. You'll get a decent quality sushi with a cheap price. My favorite is the Dragon Roll. they also serve other Japanese food menu than. I feel glad to find this place. I will definitely come back.
Food was alright, service could be better.
Quick and delicious
Very good sushi for a cheap price. I especially like their Fire station roll and Philadelphia maki (and the chicken and rice bowl which is simple but incredible value), but everything I've tried there was good. The green tea while waiting for your take-away order is a nice touch.
Food was good besides that they brought the food out then about 5 minutes later took it back.
perfect combination of price and quality
I have been coming here for a few years now and have had nothing but good experiences up til a few days ago. The food is reasonably priced and really great and service is friendly, but when I went this past Wednesday evening, the dine-in side was super super busy and one very stressed server had to cover all 10+ tables, plus it seemed like they had to keep running between the two sides of the restaurant. My partner and I waited for almost forty minutes and the poor server couldn't take our order. If the management reads this, PLEASE don't schedule like that again. I really hope Wednesday night was a fluke and Manpuku doesn't make a habit of understaffing like that. It's a terrible way to treat your hardworking servers and unpleasant for your customers.
I am a long time customer (always takeaway) and enjoy the fresh tasty sushi at the most reasonable prices. A once a week treat for us.
Disgusting. Absolutely no flavor. Just old hard chicken skin soaking in curry.
Without a doubt, Manpuku is the go-to spot for inexpensive, yet good quality sushi. The other food on their menu is good too! The only caveat is that sometimes the amount of sushi varies each time I go. While it will always be the same number of pieces, each piece can vary in size depending on who is preparing it. Nevertheless, I am always finding a reason to go back for more!
I go here regularly for the large pre-made sushi bento. At just over $10 after tax, it is an amazing meal. The pre-made sushi is always fresh at lunchtime, and the quality ranges from "much better than store bought" to occasionally very good. I have never used table service just because I don't have time.
Great sushi and seaweed salad is always good. Have nice Teriyaki bowls for lunch takeout. The pre-packed sushi is also good for when it's too busy to eat in.
Love-love this place. One of my top Japanese restaurants in the the bay. Food is always great, service is very fast and friendly, price is very decent 👌.
Loved going here for date night in college. Really good prices for sushi.
Nice value! Great food. Bento boxes and ramen available.
Very good food. Prices even better. But chicken katsu curry... Ohh man!
Very average sushi restaurant. At the front is a take out section. Even if you are dining in you have to pay up front . The decor and vibe definitely fast foody and hole in the Wally. The food itself was OKAY, not as fresh as I would have liked to have. The slices of chirashi could have been bigger but I was still okay with it. Miso Soup was super average and kinda tasteless. The best thing that I had was the spicy tuna maki which was cheap and delicious, would definitely have that again. Service was alright, nothing to write home about. All is all not a bad experience and I may return for a cheap sushi fix but high quality Japanese eating this was not so set your expectation bar right!
Favorite Japanese restaurant on College Avenue. Very reasonable prices and portions. Plenty of vegetarian options but as I am not vegetarian I usually get the Chicken Katsu Curry. Highly recommended.
This place is pretty good. There were no seats left at lunch Saturday rush. So they took us to the restaurant next door and sat us down there. It was a little weird but we figured they must have an understanding. Well not the case. The other place next door told us we weren't allowed to sit there and escorted us back over to Manpuka. At this time, there were 2 seats open so we sat there. Otherwise everything was good. Chicken Katsu was crispy.
Been coming here for years, great food and service
Been eating here for years and appreciate that they have sushi at a decent price while maintaining a good quality. This is not a fancy spot, but if you want a quick bite that is flavorful, this is your spot
This spot is the one I always prefer. I visit plenty of restaurants but to this restaurant I go the most. The team is very friendly and the cuisine they place on your table is so good. I never decline to have a nice dinner here. Highly recommended.
Really nice, I like how it's split between a set down restaurant and an popin / Togo restaurant
Tasty sushi, good quality fish, and excellent value!
The service is good but the food has really decreased in quality. My manpuku ramen is supposed to have fishcakes in it. I found a single close. Fishcakes are stupid cheap so for 10 dollars id expect more than one slice. The broth and ramen noodlrs are also bland and generic
Nice little place with good food and good prices. The ramen noodle soups are a bit underwhelming and bland, but their sushi, bento boxes & miso soup are great! It's my boyfriend's and my go to place for Japanese food for sure.
Solid Japanese food, great price, great service!
Good ramen, pretty inexpensive. There are two entrances: one on the left for a more recently remodeled, slightly more formal sit-down experience, and one on the right for take-out and a less formal setting. I've been here off and on over the years, mostly eating in on the less formal side of the divide. Maybe it's a nostalgic illusion but I feel like this place used to have more of a soul. At some point, staff started turning over quickly and the people working there generally started to seem less happy. But hey, the more formal side of their operation is a nice improvement and the food and service was good last time I was over there. I wouldn't go out of your way to get here but it's a decent place if you're in the area.
very large bowl of curry ramen. good . not more, not less. fast service . only few tables between the wall and long sushi counter. good for the price .
Good fast cheap!
Been comming here for years with the wife and kids. We all love it. This is high quality and well made sushi. Their teriyaki chicken is also very tasty.
We love going out. Yesterday we visited this excellent place which friends recommended to us. We spent a delightful evening there with exceptional meal and an efficient stuff and a talented chief cook. We added this restaurant in our list and we will surely come back very soon. We highly recommend.
Good place , good food
really good value
Great location to enjoy sushi. Very straight forward type service. If you want a decently priced lunch, give this place a try.
